And the blood will dry, underneath my nails
And the wind will rise up, to fill my sails
See you can doubt, and you can hate
But I know, no matter what it takes
I’m coming home
I’m coming home
Tell the world I’m coming home
Let the rain wash away, all the pain of yesterday
I know my kingdom awaits and they’ve forgiven my mistakes
I’m coming home
I’m coming home
Tell the world I’m coming
Home

Our beautiful and precious niece has lost her hard fought battle, to remain here with us. Things were moving in such a positive direction, until suddenly, that all changed. After multiple tests, and then many more retesting, her brain is no longer getting any blood flow. There’s essentially zero electrical activity happening, in her brain, anymore.
I’ve watched, as her twin brother held her hand. I’ve seen him hold his mama, and comfort his whole family through this. I’ve told him just how incredibly proud of him, that I am. He’s an amazing brother, son, grandson, and nephew. Last night, while everyone was tracing their fingers along her hands, feet, face, and hair, it struck me. I recognized the similarities between what her parents were doing now, and how every brand new parent is with their newborns. You study every single feature. Only this time, it’s about memorizing all of them, because you know you’re saying goodbye.
Hearing her mother plead with her, baby, please don’t go, and then the shattered wailing after doctors made it clear that she’s gone…it’s gutting.
Watching my own babies saying goodbye, is gutting.
She meant so much, to so many. She was a kind, sweet, thoughtful, gorgeous, strong, loving, talented little girl. What a cruel injustice it is, having a child’s life so abruptly cut short, just as she was growing up. My heart aches. My head hurts. My throat hurts. My soul is crying out. Although we all understand she’s going home, it wasn’t supposed to be so soon. She was meant to live a long and happy life. Her grief stricken family will always feel the enormous, empty hole, where she should be.
